Rogers Insurance Mount Everest “FUN IT” Challenge

August 5th, 2014

Because we believe in living our values, we decided that the time had come for the Mount Everest Fun It Challenge. On August 1st, our company was split into two teams competing with one-another to reach the top of Mount Everest. The goal was to get people moving and championing one-another. Of course, even though this is a “Fun It” challenge, only one team can “Win It.” So the company is ripe with competition and teasing between the two teams. Employees who would once sit together in the lunch room are now divided between orange and teal. Okay, it’s not that dramatic, but it’s very clear that we’ve got some competitive people under our roof! Because despite there not being a physical prize for the winning team, the amount of participation indicates that bragging rights and respect is enough!

The teams started their virtual adventure at Base Camp where they will climb the most common route called the South Col Route, which was used by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953 when they became the first people credited with reaching the summit. The first leg of the virtual climb is considered one of the most dangerous sections of the route – Khumbu Icefall. The average number of steps will be 60,960 to the next camp with a 2000 ft climb. The average number of steps from all members on each team will be tracked, with each step getting them closer to the top.

Follow our adventure by “liking” our Facebook page because each day we’ll be posting updates on how the journey is progressing for Team Orange & Team Teal!
