L’Arche Calgary has five homes in Calgary (each with its own name), a Supported Independent Living Program and a Day Program. They support 29 adults with developmental disabilities and have been operating since 1973.
For community members with disabilities, L’Arche is truly home. Some members spent their childhood and youth in poverty shut away in institutions and others isolated in places where their basic human need for community and belonging were not met. Today there are 137 L’Arche communities in 40 countries around the world.
The Run for L’Arche is a perfect fit with the philosophy of L’Arche that everyone has gifts to share and that we are all part of a greater community. Every year, the entire L’Arche Calgary community attends the Run for L’Arche and a number of the members with a disability, live-in assistants and office staff participate in one or more events.
