Rogers joins Hull Services to celebrate ground-breaking of the “Work Experience and Life Skills Centre expansion”

Rogers Insurance is proud to support the work of our Charity of Choice, Hull Services. Yesterday, we were proud to join Hull Services staff and supporters to celebrate the imminent construction of the Work Experience and Life Skills Centre expansion to William Roper Hull School (Hull School).

A major focus of Hull School is to prepare students to live as contributing and productive adults when they graduate. Unfortunately, many arrive at Hull lacking the life skills necessary to build the foundation for a healthy future. At Hull School, many essential skills are part of the curriculum, including how to shop for and cook a healthy meal, how to budget and how to dress for a job interview. To deliver this program more effectively and impact an even larger number of students, a 2,000 square foot addition – the Work Experience and Life Skills Centre – will open in 2015.

An expanded Work Experience and Life Skills program will ensure that each student leaving Grade 12 has the necessary skills to care for themselves to their greatest ability. The curriculum will focus on personal care, résumé writing, job search techniques, interview preparation, as well as time and money management. Teachers will reinforce the importance of staying in a job, being punctual, well-groomed and socially appropriate, as they provide ongoing support to students in work experience placements.

The Work Experience and Life Skills Centre will positively impact the next generation of young adults. In the long-term, junior and senior high school students at Hull will build a solid foundation upon which to make wise, thoughtful choices for themselves and their own families. This will lead to stronger and healthier future generations.
