Acera Insurance Run for L’Arche

In 2011, Acera Insurance (formerly Rogers Insurance) established the Run for L’Arche. We continue to coordinate and lead what is now one of the most popular early spring season events on the Calgary running calendar. Each year, our staff both run and volunteer to help raise money for this event.

Our Impact

Our annual event supports L’Arche Calgary — a local chapter organization that assists adults with intellectual disabilities.   

To date, we’ve raised over $655,000 to support people with developmental disabilities through L’Arche Calgary’s programs — helping to create community for over 100 people.

In recent years, other L’Arche communities across Canada have participated virtually, raising money for their organizations.

  • In-Person: Saturday, April 1, 2023

    Our in-person event is returning to Confluence Plaza at St. Patrick’s Island in Calgary for 2023. We are offering certified, chip-timed routes for half marathon, 10 kilometres, five kilometres and three kilometres distances. Race package pick-up from Strides Running Stores and mail-out details will be provided when you register. Start times to be announced at a later date. Please check Race Roster for full event day information.
  • Virtual: Saturday, April 1 at 12:01 a.m. – Sunday, April 9 at 11:59 p.m. MST

    A virtual event will be available for half marathon, 10 kilometres, five kilometres, and one kilometres distances. Our creative participants decide on the format, location and date(s) to complete their virtual race. Whether you run along a city pathway, or even on a treadmill it all counts! All virtual participants will receive a finishing medal, printable bib and certificate.

Event Volunteers

In past years, our over 200 core supporters have been needed to ensure the success of our events.

Key volunteer positions include:

  • Course marshals and water stations
  • On-course cyclists for each route
  • Venue set-up and break-down
  • Race package distribution (prior to event)

Even if you are not a runner and can’t make it to volunteer at our in-person event, we still need your vital support.

Consider registering as an Ambassador! You can support a participant or build a team of fundraisers, and we will be drawing for great prizes to recognize your efforts. Individual donations make a difference, every dollar counts.

L’Arche Calgary

L’Arche Calgary has five homes in the city, a supported independent living program, and Tamarack Day Program. L’Arche Calgary supports 33 people with 20 live-in assistants who come from around the world.

L’Arche Calgary is part of the L’Arche International Federation. Today, L’Arche International has 153 L’Arche communities throughout the world, including 29 in Canada.
